While stars in their own right, not many on the Schlam team have worked with genuine television stars. Except of course for new starter Brooke Boston-Reeves.

Schlam’s new Talent Sourcing Specialist had the opportunity to work for James Caan, the television entrepreneur on the BBC’s reality TV program, Dragon’s Den.

Brooke crossed paths with Caan when she first moved to the UK with her husband – a professional rugby union player – in 2004.

“My Husband Josh secured a contract playing second row for the North Walsham Rugby Club,” said Brooke.

“I had no plans to work while I was over there. In fact, I thought I’d take some time off and travel, but the opportunity arose to work in recruitment, so I jumped at the chance.”

While Brooke may describe her early years in recruitment as a mere jump, for others it would be more of a giant leap. The recruitment ace took out the Rising Star of the Year Award in 2007 and the Best Recruitment Consultant in the UK Award in 2008.

After achieving significant success in her ten years in the UK, Brooke and her husband moved back to Perth in 2010 to start a family.

The shift was not limited to her home address either, with Brooke transitioning from white-collar to blue-collar recruitment in oil & gas, construction, and mining sectors.

“I was working in headhunting and executive search while overseas. It was great, but I much prefer working in recruitment for blue-collar type roles,” said Brooke.

“You can be yourself. The people that you hire become part of your family, and you become part of theirs.”

It’s this passion and care that feeds into Brooke’s notable retention record as well as her focus on diversity and inclusion. Both areas that she is keen to bring to her role at Schlam.

Outside of the office, Brooke describes herself as a champagne lover and spiritual guru.

“I’m now a happy mum to a three-year-old named Easton and to two puppies named Jasper and Finnigan,” she said.

“I also like to help people. I’m usually the person in the office that people speak to when they’re having a hard time. I’m a good listener, and I value empathy.”

Brooke has come on board at the right time too. Schlam has set bold recruitment and growth targets and is on the hunt to onboard the best in the West.

If her second day on the job promise to “make it rain HD fitters” is anything to go by, then it should be a busy few months.
